When should I schedule dental cleanings during cancer treatment?

When you’re battling cancer, dental cleanings may be the last thing on your mind. But researchers have discovered a strong connection between oral health and overall health, and cancer treatment can have a harsh effect on your teeth and gums.

If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, call our office and schedule an examination with Dr. Narra before you begin your treatment. This will give us the opportunity to get a good baseline of your oral health and plan to take care of any problems that require treatment right away since cancer treatments impede your ability to heal and fight off infection.

Dr. Narra has experience treating patients with cancer and will work together with your oncologist to create an appropriate dental plan during your chemotherapy or radiation. Our goal is to take a proactive approach and prevent more serious problems, associated with cancer treatment, from developing. These problems may be acute and only trouble you during your actual treatment, or they may turn into chronic problems that cause discomfort and oral health issues long after your cancer has gone into remission, so it’s important to take them into consideration.

We know that cancer and its treatment can be scary, but we want to plan for the long term. We’ll stand beside you and be there for you every step of the way during your treatment. Call today to schedule your appointment.
