How long can I expect my Invisalign treatment to take?

Return to FAQs

Invisalign treatment time will vary, depending on the severity of your condition, but in general, most treatment with Invisalign lasts from about 12 months to 18 months if you wear your aligners as prescribed, at least 20 hours per day.

When you come in for your Invisalign evaluation, Dr. Narra will create a prescribed treatment plan. At that point, she will be able to give you an approximate idea of how long you can expect your treatment to take. Of course, your treatment time will also depend on you. Invisalign is a more "independent" type of orthodontic treatment. Instead of coming in on a regular basis for an orthodontist to tighten your wires, you will need to switch out aligners according to Dr. Narra's instructions. If you don't switch your aligners as directed (or you wear your aligners for fewer than the recommended number of hours each day), your treatment may take longer than expected.

Invisalign is designed to be removed while eating (or while playing sports), but you will need to be mindful of how long the aligners are out of your mouth so that you don't delay treatment. If you anticipate that you may not be able to wear the aligners for the prescribed number of hours, let Dr. Narra know ahead of time so that she can adjust your treatment time and schedule accordingly.
