Emergency Dental Treatment
An unexpected dental emergency can ruin all your plans for the day. It can happen when you least expect it. If you don’t get immediate attention, more pain can occur. You should consider getting same day treatment from AZ Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. Dr. Vasudha Narra and her team can handle most any dental emergency.
When you come in for emergency dental treatment, Dr. Narra will listen to your concerns and check your mouth to determine the cause of the problem. The first thing that she will address is the pain that you are feeling. Once the problem is identified, she will talk to you about the treatment plan.
How to Handle Dental Emergency
Dr. Narra will first do an oral examination that focuses on the problem area to determine the area of the dental emergency. Digital x-rays will be taken to check the structure of your teeth. This will allow Dr. Narra to have a clear view of the problem.
The same day treatment starts as soon as you arrive at the dental office. At AZ Cosmetic and Family Dentistry will strive to relieve you of your pain and fix the dental problem that might require an extraction, crown, replacement of fillings, or a root canal.
What to do during a Dental Emergency
Toothache – There are several causes of a toothache. The most common is tooth decay that was left untreated. Toothaches can also be caused by an infected nerve root that might need a root canal. The best way to treat a toothache is to rinse your mouth with warm water, and then floss to get rid of loose debris. Swelling can be treated with a cold compress.
Broken Tooth – There are instances in which your tooth can break. It might break if there is already a fracture, or when you bite into something hard. Old fillings can also compromise the structure of the tooth. It is important to save all the pieces of the tooth and apply a cold compress to the affected area.
Tooth Knocked Out – Sports injuries, car accidents, and other blunt force trauma can knock out your teeth. There are several ways to treat this type of dental emergency. The first one is to put the tooth back into place and bite down on a wet tea bag or gauze to keep it in place. If it is not possible to put the tooth back into place, place it in a container filled with whole milk.
Lost Filling – If a filling is really old, you might lose it when you bite into food. You can use a sugarless gum to temporarily replace the filling, or buy over-the-counter dental cement.
Loose Crown – A crown that is detached requires immediate emergency dental treatment. You can try to slip it back into place. But it would be best if you let us do it for you.
Dental Abscess – This happens when an infection caused puss to build up around the soft tissue of the gum that surrounds the tooth. You will feel pain and swelling in the area. It is important that you contact us right away and schedule an emergency dental treatment before the pain becomes worse. One way to treat this condition at home is to rinse the mouth with a mild saline solution several times throughout the day.
