A Final Word on Oral Hygiene
Getting into the habits of good oral hygiene and sound nutrition are the best things you can do to preserve your smile and keep it looking its best. In addition to daily brushing and flossing, it’s important to schedule regular oral hygiene visits so we can help prevent many of the problems that lead to tooth decay and loss. Our goal is to help
you preserve your smile for a lifetime.
Amalgam vs. Composite fillings
Many of our patients have been inquiring about the difference between these two filling materials. There are pros and cons of both. Amalgam (silver) has been used for over 100 years to fill cavities. Composite is a more modern, tooth-colored, filling material that has improved greatly since it was invented in the 1960′s. Today composites are more comparable to amalgam fillings, and they continue to improve. Our practice will continue to seek to provide the best materials available.
Some of our patients have asked about having their amalgam fillings replaced with composite fillings because they are afraid of getting metal poisoning. Research does not support the claim of metal poisoning from amalgam fillings; therefore, our recommendation is not to replace amalgams unless they need it. We offer both types of fillings in our office to allow our patients a choice. Dr. Marget and Dr. Bradshaw will make recommendations on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about the pros and cons of each type of filling please contact us and we will be glad to provide any information we
can!
